Mengru Wang 王孟儒
Welcome to my homepage!
I am a PhD candidate in Economics at the National University of Singapore, on the 2026–2027 job market.
My research lies at the intersection of economic history, political economy, and development economics, with a regional focus on China. I study how geography, institutions, and administrative design have shaped long-run political and economic development.
Prior to my PhD, I was a Research Associate at Harvard Business School, working with Professor Laura Alfaro on the economic history of Shanghai’s Concession Era. I hold an M.A. in Social Sciences (Economics) from the University of Chicago and bachelor’s degrees in Economics and Mathematics from Peking University.
